Arrest made in connection to Woodruff bank robbery

Information received from Woodruff Police Chief, Greg Ryan, indicates that an arrest has been made as of 1/16/20.

Working with S.L.E.D. and Spartanburg County Sherriff’s Office, Woodruff Police Department apprehended and arrested William Daniel Bowman in connection with the bank robbery that occurred on January 14, 2020 at the Arthur State Bank located at 595 N. Main Street, in Woodruff.

Bowman was taken into custody after a brief foot chase without further incident. Bowman was treated on scene by Spartanburg EMS, due to exhaustion. He was transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center where he was booked for Armed Robbery. At this time the money stolen from the bank has not been recovered, but the vehicle used during the commission of the robbery was located.

In this ongoing investigation, a second person involved in this incident was identified. The Woodruff Police Department is still working to obtain information in order to obtain an arrest warrant for his role in the robbery.

Additional information will be released by the WPD when it becomes available.
