June 23 Runoff Election Results

Primary election runoffs were held on June 23 for South Carolina House of Representative District 35 and Spartanburg County Council District 4.

Rep. Bill Chumley, the incumbent for House District 35, won the Republican primary race against Chris Bennett. Chumley received 53.4% of the votes; Bennett had 46.6%.

“It’s such a privilege and an honor to serve the all of the people in SC House District 35. I am encouraged by the outpouring of support. Our district is more diverse than it’s ever been. I will be accessible and available to listen to everyone,” said Chumley.

In the general election in November, Chumley will face Democratic challenger Helen Pendarivs of Duncan.

“In November, we will continue to work hard asking for every vote. We will use the volunteers and staff to get our conservative message out,” said Chumley.

For the Republican seat for Spartanburg County Council District 4, Justin McCorkle defeated incumbent Whitney Farr with 53.8% of the votes. Farr received 46.2% of the votes.

McCorkle will advocate for jobs and a strong economy, roads and public safety, and quality of life, according to his website. McCorkle will run unopposed in November.
