Recent data from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce show that the South Carolina unemployment rate decreased from 8.7% in July to 6.3% in August.
Each county in the state saw a dip in unemployment from July to August. In Spartanburg County, unemployment fell to 7.0% in August from 9.6% in July, while Greenville County saw a drop to 5.7% from 7.9%.
Governor Henry McMaster released the following statement in response to the statewide unemployment rate dropping: “Today’s news shows that South Carolina’s economic recovery is well underway. We still have a lot of work to do to get our people back to work and get our economy back to full strength, but this is clear evidence that we’re on the right track and that should be encouraging news for every South Carolinian.”
