Seniors parody Robert Herrick’s famous poem,“To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time.”

To the Seniors, to Make Much of Time

Gather ye childhood while ye may,
The school bell always ringing;
And the same swing-set covered today
Tomorrow won’t be swinging.

The rough maturity of binders and books,
More callous they’re a getting,
Four years they have been proven nooks,
And nearer they’re to settling.

That hour is best of naps and snacks,
When we were learning how to read.
But now we learned all sorts of facts,
Forgetting what planted the seed.

Then be not hardened, but be light,
And while ye may, be merry;
For having lost your joyous bright,
Your happiness may vary.

-Chloe Chandler

To the Seniors, To Make Much of Time

When church bells ring and music plays,
They never fail to end.
But very soon one evening in May,
New life these sounds will begin.

The football field, in all years past,
Has been there to have fun.
But soon it will unite your class,
The Class of ‘21.

Your time is limited, you see,
And when you’re gray and old,
You’ll long for all that used to be,
While you were maroon and gold.

So make the most of these last weeks;
A senior just once you are.
You’ve memories to make and moments to seize–
Don’t let them get too far.

To The Seniors, To Make Much of Time

Gather your notebooks, while you can
For time is just a flying;
Today a child, tomorrow a man
And soon, the children crying.

The glorious sound of end, the bell.
The senioritis is rising,
We’re late for class again, “oh well”
The faculty is chastising.

The end of the line is almost here
The halls will come to an end
No longer with your friends be near
To participate with in the latest trend.

So, don’t be shy and have some fun,
Enjoy that last textbook page.
For soon, this will all be done
And tomorrow, we cross that stage.

-Abigail Linder

To the Seniors, to Make Much of Time

Turn in assignments while you can
Grades can still be dropping
It’s long since the year began
But there’s still time to prevent you walking

The sun shines high every morn
As students count down the days
Until cap and gown, they do adorn
And hope for no delays

For now, they remain young
And must make the most of life
Before their song is sung
And life is filled with strife

Wisely use your time
Don’t let it go to waste
You’ve almost completed the climb
So, don’t let your accomplishments get erased

-Jacob McCall
