The Woodruff City Council heard the first reading on annexation and zoning for approximately 125 acres of property, which is expected to bring in more housing to the area. Starbucks has started the process of bringing a store to the city.
During his update to the board, City Manager Lee Bailey announced that development and interest in Woodruff continues to thrive and that projects were starting to pull more permits to start work. One project moving forward is a Starbucks expected to be built near Bojangles on north Main Street. According to Bailey, the project should begin in the next couple of months.
In other business, the Council accepted the petition for annexation and heard the first reading for annexation and zoning of two projects near Highway 221 and Varner Road. The First project consists of approximately 49 acres at 221 and Varner and is projected to have 140 residential lots. The second is just over 48 acres on Varner Road and will likely have approximately 80 residential lots.
The Council also heard the first reading for annexation and zoning of 32 acres on Snowmill Road. This property will be combined with acreage that was previously annexed and zoned to be part of a planned development project in that area, including retail businesses and residential homes.
The owner of more than 125 acres of land on Fountain Inn Road, south of the intersection with Highway 101 requested annexation and to have the land zoned for industrial development. Community and Economic Development Director Alyson Smith told the Council that the industrial designation fits the city’s comprehensive plan for the area. The Council approved the first reading for this project.
The housing and industrial projects will come back before the Council for final approval at their next meeting on February 22. City Council meetings are open to the public and held at City Hall starting at 5:30 p.m.
