The Woodruff City Council voted to approve the annexation and zoning of nearly 130 acres on the south end of the city that is expected to bring new housing to the area. They also voted to utilize COVID relief funds to purchase a track loader.
The council approved requests from LyonJay, a property development company in Greenville, to annex and zone multiple parcels in the area of Highway 221 and Varner Road for two housing developments. The first development would consist of approximately 49 acres for a projected 162 home lots, and the second is just over 48 acres and is expected to have approximately 110 home lots.
A third housing request to annex and zone 32 acres on Snowmill Road was approved as planned development and will be added to a previously approved development on Snowmill Road. The development is planned to have commercial and retail development fronting Cross Anchor Road with housing built along Snowmill Road behind the commercial properties.
The owner of more than 125 acres on Fountain Inn Road near Highway 101 received approval for annexation and zoning for I-2 industrial. City Manager Lee Bailey told council members that the owner doesn’t have a development plan as of yet and that the industrial zoning fits with the city’s zoning map for that area.
In new business, the council approved the first reading of a request for annexation of just over 44 acres on Highway 101 across the road and just south of Woodruff Chevrolet. The owner is requesting planned development zoning for the future development of commercial and retail fronting Highway 101 and a townhouse development behind the commercial.
The council also passed a resolution for the purchase of a Cat 2890 track loader for use by multiple city departments. Bailey told the council that the purchase would be paid for by funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). He said the city has had to rent this type of equipment in the past, so purchasing the equipment with the relief funds makes sense at this time.
Council members also approved a resolution approving a plan by the Municipal Association establishing regulations regarding what cities can claim as a loss under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding program. The plan is being approved by municipalities across the state to create a uniform plan for funds.
The Woodruff City Council meets at City Hall on the last Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 29. All meetings are open to the public.
