Spartanburg County Library Bookmobile Comes to Enoree

Bookmobiles have been around almost as long as cars. The idea of the Bookmobile first came from a librarian Ms. Lemist Titcomb. Who, in 1905, said, “Would not a Library Wagon, the outward and visible signs of the service for which the Library stood, do much more in cementing friendship?”

Spartanburg County Library has had a bookmobile since 1947. However, it has been many years since the mobile library has visited Enoree. Enoree Community Connect, of which Enoree Revitalization Project is a part, has worked with Spartanburg County Library to bring the Bookmobile back to Enoree.

Angelique Jarvis-Simmons, Enoree Community Connect Director, says, “We are excited to announce that Spartanburg Public Library has agreed to bring the Bookmobile to Enoree! The schedule will also allow for the children to be able to attend after school. [The] location for the Bookmobile parking will be at the Enoree Fire Department, on Hwy. 221. The bookmobile had come to Enoree, years ago, and those that were here recalled fond memories of it. We’re hoping to recreate those memories for the newcomers; the younger generation; and our seniors, who no longer drive. One of our Enoree residents mentioned a book club, so this will give us another opportunity to come together, as a community, as well. “

The Bookmobile offers over 3,500 items, including: fiction and non-fiction books, recorded books and DVDs for all ages. The check-out period is 28 days. You will also be able to register for a Library card and get a replacement card. Materials from the Bookmobile may be returned to the Bookmobile or any Library branch.
