SC State Highway Patrol Enforcement Initiative: Highway 146 (Cross Anchor Hwy)

The SC Highway Patrol issued 246 citations and warnings during a safety check on Highway 146 also known as Cross Anchor Highway.

The safety check was conducted August 14 thru August 27. One resident was relieved to see the safety check happen expressing major concerns about dangerous speeding patterns by drivers on Highway 146. Excerpts from the resident’s statement says, “…I find myself praying as I turn into my driveway that they [cars] won’t hit me.”

In 2018, seven deaths occurred on roads in Woodruff due to fatal car crashes and road traffic accidents, according to city-data.com.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports 749 fatal crashes and 805 persons were killed in 2021, which eclipsed a 5-year high for South Carolina. The statistics for 2022 show a decrease in fatalities when compared year-to-date with 614 fatal crashes and 665 persons killed. Traffic accidents resulting in fatalities can be reduced or eliminated. Four major causes of fatal crashes are speeding, distracted driving, driving under the influence, and not wearing a seatbelt.

Driving is a privilege, and safety should be a priority of every driver and passenger on the road.
