Professionalism and dedication are how Woodruff Police Chief Greg Ryan described the actions of three of his officers in recognizing their efforts during a recent shooting incident. Their quick thinking, training, and commitment led to them saving the victim’s life, identifying and apprehending the suspect, and recovering the gun involved. All three were recognized at the March Woodruff City Council meeting for their actions.

Chief Ryan commended Corporal Kyle Quin, Officer Dalton Anderson, and Officer Brian Wojtun for their actions on that day and presented each with an award during the meeting.

“These officers are the definition of professionalism and dedication, and their actions directly reflect what the citizens of our community expect from a law enforcement officer,” Chief Ryan said.

On February 25, police were called to a shooting where Officer Wojtun responded as the only officer on duty at the time. The officer arrived at the chaotic scene and found a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. While dealing with a number of people on the scene, Officer Wojtun was able to begin the investigation and identify a possible suspect and detain them.

Corporal Quin arrived shortly after Officer Wojtun and immediately began rendering aid to the victim. He leaned on his medical training and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg, and stabilized him until paramedics arrived. Corporal Quin’s actions were later determined to have saved the victim’s life.

Officer Anderson was able to assist with the investigation, interviewing the suspect. His ability to develop a rapport with him led to the suspect confessing to the shooting and directing officers to where he had gotten rid of the gun. Officers Anderson and Wojtun came in on their day off the next day to search for the weapon, which they were able to locate.

Chief Ryan commended the commitment of the three officers for not only saving the victim but also apprehending the suspect and recovering the weapon before it could be found by someone else. For their efforts, Corporal Quin was awarded the Lifesaver Award, and Officers Anderson and Wojtun were given an Exemplary Performance Award.
