Central, S.C. – Mary Sunshine House (MSH), a non-profit organization, is set to open a specialized residential community aimed at assisting autistic adults. With plans for a July opening, MSH is currently accepting applications for its first 10 residents.

The Mary Sunshine House community offers a comprehensive program that provides residential, educational, recreational, and well-being amenities tailored specifically to meet the needs of autistic adults. The community is housed in a recently renovated duplex complex adjacent to the Southern Wesleyan University campus in Central, South Carolina.

Lifestyle Coaches will be available to oversee all activities within the community, ensuring that residents are supported and encouraged to develop their full potential.

Lori Pendergraph, founder and President of the Board, expressed enthusiasm about the unique opportunity Mary Sunshine House presents. She stated, “This is an incredibly unique opportunity for adults with autism to engage in a community that is safe and supports the enrichment of all the residents with a variety of activities and amenities.”

The initial phase of renovations and updates has been completed for the first 10 apartments, which will accommodate the first batch of residents. Each apartment features two bedrooms, one bathroom, and is equipped with brand new appliances, bathroom fixtures, flooring, and kitchens.

To be eligible for residency, individuals must be at least 22 years of age or older, demonstrate the capability and desire to live independently, and have been diagnosed with a neurological impairment such as autism spectrum disorder, developmental disability, attention deficit disorder, or pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified.

Brian Vickers, the Executive Director of MSH, expressed excitement about the upcoming opening and encouraged interested individuals to submit their applications promptly. Vickers stated, “We are excited to open and look forward to receiving applications for future residents. We realize that the 10 available apartments will be in high demand, so we encourage people to reach out with their questions and express their interest.”
