It was an exciting day when Woodruff High School announced Brett Sloan as the Wolverines’ new football coach in early spring. In the months that have followed, Coach Sloan has assembled an ensemble staff to guide the Wolverines back to prominence in Class 3A. With newcomers and familiar faces, Woodruff football is in good hands. The Woodruff Times wants to help everyone in our community meet the coaches with fun facts about the fantastic men who will lead our young men on the gridiron into an exciting future.

- Where did you attend high school- Chapman High School, class of 2002
- What sports did you play in high school- Football and baseball
- How long have you been a coach- 19 years
- What position do you coach- Head coach and quarterbacks
- What is your favorite thing about coaching- “I love the strategy, and I love watching boys grow into men through the lessons that football teaches.”
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- “I love the work ethic of our players and the community’s passion for the game.”

- Where is your hometown- Inman, SC
- Where did you attend high school- Chapman High School, class of 1994
- What sports did you play in high school- Football, basketball, and baseball
- How long have you been a coach- 16 years
- What position do you coach- offensive coordinator and quarterbacks
- What is your favorite thing about coaching- I love working with the players and that feeling you get when they trust in you and believe in you, and it works for them. Being a mentor and watching them grow as students and young men is what it’s all about. (And winning on Friday nights!)
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- I really enjoy the people so far. The kids work hard and have that desire to be great. The community is strong, and they love their town and school. I can relate because that’s how I am. I’m looking forward to getting to know more about the area.

- Where did you attend high school- Boiling Springs High School, class of 2011
- What sports did you play in high school- Football and track and field
- How long have you been a coach- I coached six seasons in college, from D2 to Power 5, and one season at Byrnes High School. This will be my 8th season coaching.
- What position do you coach- Defensive coordinator and defensive backs
- What is your favorite thing about coaching- My favorite aspect is seeing the growth in players throughout their playing careers. Seeing them master concepts on the field and become better players/teammates, and grow into a leader and young man.
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- I enjoy watching our kids work the most. I’ve never been to a place where you don’t have to push kids hard to work. It is part of their DNA at Woodruff. All they know when they step into the weight room or on the field, is to take what their coach says and work at it with all they have.

- What position do you coach- Defensive line
- What is your favorite thing about coaching- It’s an opportunity to teach athletes to grow as a person while serving others, teaching them to find a love for something greater than themselves, all with a goal of being able to watch athletes grow up and become successful in life.
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- Being close to home and being able to coach in the place where I grew up playing and competing. It’s an opportunity to pour into athletes in the same way that my coaches poured into me.

- How long have you been a coach- 10 years. This is my second year coaching varsity, and I coached at Woodruff Middle School for one year

- What is your favorite thing about coaching- The teaching aspect is my favorite part about the game and watching the boys become smart football players.
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- Giving back to my hometown and watching these boys turn into good men. I have watched this group grow from primary and middle school athletes and how they are about to lead our Wolverines to their next state championship!

- What is your favorite thing about coaching- Preparation, practice, and game days
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- Watching the kids grow and building lifetime relationships with coaches and players! I’m forever grateful to be doing what I love and being surrounded by good people!

- What is your favorite thing about coaching- The entire process of taking individuals and molding, mentoring, and coaching them into a cohesive unit that excels on the field and off with their families, friends, and teammates. The process of developing young men and women into motivated yet humble and kind members of this wonderful community.
- What do you enjoy about coaching at Woodruff- I played here at a high school level in a football state championship game in Varner Stadium. I’ve lived that work ethic and witnessed what great coaching can do for not just the athletes but an entire town. I go to work every day to be a part of that again.
