Woodruff’s 150th

By: Katherine Kaminer, Contributing Writer

Woodruff’s 150th Anniversary is in 2024. Watch for the city’s announcement in January of celebrations to come this new year!

The steering committee invites the community to a meeting Monday, February 5th at 7 pm at the Woodruff Community Center, 116 S Main Street. We are gathering historic information of our beginnings and growth through the years. We love this town and the goodwill among residents and hope our new residents will sense the positive outlook, feel welcome, and get involved.

In celebrating our history, we invite your stories of farming in this area, of interaction with the railroad, your church stories, your family highlights, your influential ancestor, leaders, and other interesting elements of what made Woodruff who we are.

There are several Revolutionary-era soldiers buried in historic Bethel cemetery. Do you know any facts about them?

The committee will conduct art and writing contests for students and we plan community revival services in remembering the revival 150 years ago. We invite any interested citizens to volunteer with us in any aspect of Woodruff’s celebration. We seek musicians and vendors for festivities.

Steering Committee: Charlie Mae Gilliam, Mayor Gist, Katherine Kaminer, Paul Kaminer, Karyn Page-Davies, Rev. Derrick Scurry, Rev. Andrew Shull, Ben Teague, Deborah Williams.
