Woodruff, SC – In a move aimed at bolstering crime-fighting efforts within the Woodruff community, the Woodruff Police Department has announced the establishment of a new detective unit. Chief Ryan elaborated on the driving force behind this decision, citing the city’s growth and the department’s evolving needs.
“As our city and agency grows, roles such as the detective unit will begin to appear,” Chief Ryan stated. “We were fortunate to have the support of the city leadership to re-allocate our current staffing to create this position as it is one that the department has needed for some time.”
The newly established detective unit will play a crucial role in investigating major crimes, gangs, and narcotics within the city limits. Chief Ryan outlined the main objectives and responsibilities of the unit, emphasizing its collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and road patrol officers to identify patterns and trends of crimes.
“The role of this position is to conduct investigations into major crimes, drugs, and gangs,” Chief Ryan explained. “Our road patrol staff will still be responsible for handling cases, but those that require longer investigations will be assigned to the department’s detective.”
Regarding the qualifications for detectives selected to join the unit, Chief Ryan highlighted the comprehensive training they will undergo in various areas relevant to their role within the organization.
“The individual selected for this position will receive training in major crimes investigations, narcotics investigations, gang identification, interview and interrogation training, child crime investigations, and any other courses applicable to their role,” Chief Ryan stated.
Although no additional technology or specialized equipment will be initially allocated to the detective unit, Chief Ryan emphasized its long-term impact on enhancing the department’s ability to address and solve crimes in the Woodruff community.
“This new unit will aid in investigations and handle cases that would require more long-term investigative resources,” Chief Ryan said. “By implementing this unit, officers assigned to the road will be able to focus more on the daily needs of our citizens.”
Furthermore, Chief Ryan underscored the importance of collaboration with other departments and agencies, both locally and regionally, to achieve the unit’s objectives.
“It will be essential for this position to collaborate with other agencies both within the county and the state,” Chief Ryan affirmed. “Partnerships are vital to police work, regardless of the size of the department.”
In conclusion, Chief Ryan expressed optimism about the positive impact of the new detective unit on the overall workload and efficiency of the Woodruff Police Department.
“By having a dedicated person assigned to these cases, our agency will be able to focus on the cases, working toward a resolution,” Chief Ryan concluded.
