Officer Dawkins Honored Upon Retirement

By: Vareva Harris and Jeremy Handel, Staff Writer

Woodruff Mayor Kenneth Gist, Police Chief Greg Ryan, and Lee Bailey, Woodruff City Manager, honored Officer Darrell Dawkins for his 28 years of stellar service with the Woodruff Police Department. Praised by Bailey as “one of the good ones” for his work, Dawkins received a framed service weapon and a department shoulder patch from Chief Ryan.

Dawkins expressed gratitude, stating, “I take pride in doing God’s work. One thing I’ve learned in 28 years is that no matter how much evil is out there, love wins.” Though retiring, Dawkins will return as a resource officer later this summer after the required 30-day period of separation. There is great excitement about his return to the department because Dawkins is loved and highly respected by the community he has served so faithfully. His unwavering commitment is valuable to the department and community.
