President Donald Trump has elevated Stephen Gilchrist to Vice Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, recognizing his unwavering commitment to civil rights, economic empowerment, and equal opportunity across the nation. A native of Greenwood, South Carolina, Gilchrist was first appointed to the Commission during President Trump’s initial term.
“I am honored that President Trump has once again allowed me to serve in a leadership role with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and I look forward to working alongside his administration to advance these causes,” said Gilchrist.
As Chairman of the South Carolina African American Chamber of Commerce (SCAACC), Gilchrist has been a driving force in empowering minority entrepreneurs, fostering economic growth, and strengthening community development. His leadership has created crucial opportunities for underserved communities, making a lasting impact.
In his new role, Gilchrist will help shape national policies on economic justice, fair housing, voting rights, and education access. His expertise will strengthen the Commission’s mission to uphold justice and equality for all Americans.
Beyond civil rights, Gilchrist is a strong advocate for economic innovation and President Trump’s pro-business agenda. He believes towns like Woodruff, with its mix of small businesses and corporate giants like BMW, are poised for continued prosperity. He also highlighted the impact of AI in industries like manufacturing, banking, hospitality, tourism, and education, emphasizing its potential for accelerating economic growth.
The SCAACC celebrates this milestone, confident that Gilchrist’s leadership will drive meaningful change in the ongoing pursuit of civil rights and economic opportunity nationwide.
