After a down year in 2024, a season riddled with injuries and bad luck, the Lady Wolverine soccer team roared back with a vengeance in their season opener, beating Clinton 7-0 last Friday night.
Woodruff, who won 21 consecutive region championships and two upper-state titles between 2003 and 2023, saw that unprecedented streak end last season. But the Lady Wolverines look well on their way to potentially starting another one.
Woodruff jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Peyton Cox, Kaelyn Glass, and Tara Sharpe.
From there, the deluge only got stronger. The Lady Wolverines poured on four more scores in the final 20 minutes, with Cox and Glass scoring their second goals of the night, along with scores by Abagail Matthews and Nallely Perez.
Woodruff head coach Jorge Santos was happy with how his team played.
“The girls played with intensity and purpose on Friday night,” he said. Our coaching staff was very pleased with how we played. We are looking forward to building on this win as we play Union County on Tuesday.”
