With hearts full of love and a passion for others, James and Lola McBeth have been a very important fabric of our community over the years, weaving a legacy of kindness and compassion that will be cherished for generations to come.
The Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, SC, holds a special place in the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. McBeth. It was there, as young professionals, that they met and formed a lasting bond. As their friendship grew, so did their love. Engaged and then married just months apart, they’ve now celebrated an impressive 50 years of marriage, love, and adventure together. They have retired after 40 plus years of service each and make their home in Cross Anchor, SC.
Mr. and Mrs. McBeth are dedicated members of Mt. Zion CME Church in Cross Anchor. Mrs. McBeth’s leadership roles include Minister of Music and membership on the Missionary, Stewardess, Lay, and Evangelism boards. She also serves as a Sunday School Teacher. Mr. McBeth holds key positions as Chairman of the Steward Board, Advisor to the Trustee Board, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher, Lay Board member, and member of the Ministry to Men (Local and Regional).
Mr. and Mrs. McBeth have left an indelible mark on their community through their tireless volunteerism and leadership. James McBeth’s impressive 16-year tenure on the Spartanburg County School District Four School Board demonstrates his unwavering commitment to education. When asked about his motivation for seeking office, he shared, “I wanted to utilize my experience working with young people to benefit our students, staff, and administration.” The McBeths’ selfless dedication to their sons, Jamie and Marcus, whether it was sports or education, earned them widespread admiration.
It was important for them and their sons’ growth and development to be active and present parents. Their guiding principle was “We’ve always strived to be there for others, especially our children, demonstrating unconditional love and commitment. Education is a lifelong pursuit of excellence, a precious gift that can never be taken away.”
After retiring, the McBeths chose to re-enter the workforce, driven by a desire to make a difference. They now serve District Four at Woodruff High as Transition Associates (Job Coaches) for Special Needs Students and The Alternative Schools in Spartanburg, with Mr. McBeth also driving a bus to support these students. They have experienced many success stories in their work. “We have been able to create an environment where most of our students are shown that we really care and offer them a path to become more outgoing and successful.” One memorable experience on one of their committee’s projects was being able to raise the funds for a local family in need of financial assistance because one of their children had been injured.
Sharing life’s joys is a hallmark of the McBeths’ relationship. They delight in shopping excursions, culinary adventures, and watching sports together. Their enthusiasm extends to professional tennis, football, and basketball, with a loyal devotion to the USC Gamecocks. The McBeths are most grateful for their faith, good health, and family. They are the proud grandparents of 4, one of whom was received unto the Lord when she was 5 months old.
James and Lola McBeth’s extraordinary legacy is a shining example of the transformative power of love and service. As we honor their remarkable contributions to our community, may their story inspire us to follow in their footsteps, spreading love, kindness, and compassion to all.
