The State Forester’s Burning Ban was lifted at noon on April 2 for Greenville, Horry, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg counties, officially ending the statewide outdoor burning restriction put in place on March 21.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) had previously lifted the ban for 41 counties on March 31. The remaining five counties remained under the ban due to ongoing wildfire activity and hazardous weather conditions.
With improving conditions—namely, subsiding winds and rising humidity—and significant progress in containing the Table Rock Complex wildfires, resources can now return to their home units. However, the SCFC urges the public to remain cautious.
April is historically South Carolina’s peak wildfire month, and above-average fire danger is still forecasted. Fires that escape control can result in legal consequences.
Citizens may resume outdoor burning, including residential yard debris and prescribed forestry burns, but must follow all safety guidelines and notify the SCFC beforehand.
