The Woodruff City Council approved the first reading of several items related to a possible housing development to be located near Highway 221 and Old Spartanburg Highway.
An unknown developer is purchasing several lots in the area totaling nearly 150 acres. The current owners requested that the lots be annexed into the city and zoned for R-2 Single Family Residential.
City Manager Lee Bailey told the Council that potential housing development could include up to 300 half-acre lots with entrances to the subdivision off Highway 221, Old Spartanburg Highway, and Chestnut Drive.
The zoning of the parcels is expected to go to the planning commission in May, and the annexation and zoning will return to the council at their May meeting for final approval. The planned subdivision is still in the early stages, and no construction date is scheduled.
In other business, the Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex 23 acres at Highway 101 and Old Orchard Road. The owners requested annexation for potential future development. No development plans are in place for the property at this time.
They also approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone a nearly 2-acre parcel at 601 East Georgia from R-1 Single Family Residential to C-1 Neighborhood Commercial. The property had previously housed Woodruff Family Dentistry. The new owners intend to open a dental practice and requested to the rezoning to properly match the proposed usage.
In department reports, Bailey indicated that the city staff had finalized this year’s summer concert series at McKinney Park, which will feature Nashville recording artist Nikki Lane on Saturday, June 7. Lane has ties to the Woodruff area and will perform here the night after she opens for country superstar Chris Stapleton at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville. Other acts include The Tams and The Vinyl Junkies. The series will conclude with the Paris Island Marine Band providing a patriotic performance and fireworks on June 27.
Woodruff City Council meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public, and the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 27.

When are all these housing developments going to stop. The traffic, now, is horrible. Our little towns are being taken over by these constructions and people. It’s all about the almighty dollar without thinking about the people that already live here. They aren’t happy at all!!!!
