The spring sports season has officially come to an end for all of Woodruff’s athletes as graduation festivities are set to commence. Only three spring sports teams were in action this past week, including gold and the girls’ and boys’ track and field athletes competing in the 3A state meet, and with its conclusion, so comes to an end another year of exciting Wolverine sports. Here is a look back at the final week that was for Woodruff High School sports for the 2024-25 school year.
Woodruff Track and Field Athletes Compete Well in State Meet
Woodruff track and field sent 36 qualifying athletes to the 3A state meet last Saturday, and several Wolverines earned their way to the podium during their respective events in what was a good showing for the girls’ and boys’ squads.
The Wolverine boys shone during the jumping and throwing events. Sophomore Jaylen Lyles finished 3rd overall in the long jump and was the highest finishing Woodruff athlete of the day with a final jump of 6.48 meters. Nathan McConnell placed sixth overall in the pole vault with a vault of 3.48 meters. Sophomore Paul Davis made the podium, finishing seventh in the discus with a throw of 38.33 meters. Quinn Barnett finished fifth in javelin at 49.2 meters on his final throw.
For the girls’ team, all three relay teams performed solidly. The Lady Wolverines finished ninth in the 4×100 and 10th in the 4×400 and 4×800 races. Kyoni Elmore got to the podium, finishing seventh in the high jump with a 1.5-meter leap. Jordan Robinson finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.64 meters. But the best event of the day for the Lady Wolverines was the pole vault. Four Woodruff vaulters made up the top 14, including Alyssa Dolquist, who finished third overall with a vault of 2.9 meters. Callie Adams (11th), Harrison Hatchett (12th), and Sobie Duncan (13th) also finished in the top 15.
The highest finisher of either Woodruff team on the day was Emma Stubbs. Emma finished as the state runner-up in discus with a throw of 34.54 meters. Stubbs also finished fifth overall in the shot put with a throw of 10.29 meters. Joining her on the podium for that event was teammate McKenzie Bivens, who finished eighth with a distance of 9.86 meters.

Two Wolverine golfers qualified for the individual state tournament. Jackson McCarley and Addison Davis each earned a place in the state tournament, which was held over two days on Monday and Tuesday.
