Spartanburg School District Four proudly congratulates Gloria Young, a dedicated educator at Woodruff
Elementary School, on receiving the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award from the Palmetto
Council of Scouts America.
This prestigious honor, established in 2016, recognizes outstanding educators who demonstrate exceptional support for the Scouts America mission: “To prepare young people to make
ethical and moral choices over their lifetime.” Gloria Young was selected for her unwavering commitment to character development, leadership, and community engagement—values that align directly with the mission of Scouting.
The award is named after Elbert K. Fretwell, a former Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America and an advocate for education and youth development. Honorees are selected based on their dedication to youth, support of Scouting values, and ability to inspire ethical behavior in and out of the classroom.
Students, colleagues, and parents alike have praised Mrs. Young’s compassionate teaching style, her encouragement of service projects, and her passion for fostering responsible citizenship.
Woodruff Elementary and broader community in celebrating this well-deserved recognition and thanking Mrs. Young for her continued service to education and youth development.
