Resources at the Woodruff Community Center

By: Lila Dees, Intern

Located at 116 South Main Street, the Woodruff Community Center is dedicated to enriching the lives of residents in Woodruff and the surrounding areas. Open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 4 PM, the center offers a wide variety of activities and services for people of all ages.

The Community Center is a vibrant hub of creativity, support, and outreach. From hosting puppet shows that are filmed and aired on the Bing Network to offering art, dance, and music classes, the center brings people together through education and expression.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the Community Center’s store is open to the public, offering an additional way to support its efforts. To sign up for events and classes—like the weekly paint class held every Thursday at 1 PM—visitors can stop by the center in person. Saturdays include creative writing and puppeteering classes, and throughout the week, there are lessons in music, dance, and art.

Tuesdays at 1 PM, the center hosts a community prayer gathering, inviting residents to join in support of one another. The center also collects donations of toiletries, supplies, and water to help serve the homeless population.

This summer, the center will host two free camps for kids, running July 14–18 and July 21–25, from 9 AM to 12 PM. In addition, the center offers Road 678, a special program designed for at-risk middle school students, held on Thursdays.

The Woodruff Community Center also plays a role in city-wide events, including Spring Fling, where it recently delighted children with pony rides.

Ms. Williams, the center’s director, summed up their mission best: “The Community Center’s mission is to foster a spirit of community that encourages residents to live healthy and empowered lives.” Her words perfectly capture the heart of what the center stands for.
