Spartanburg County Gears Up for High-Impact 2025 Elections: Sheriff, School Board, and City Council Contests on the Ballot

SPARTANBURG COUNTY — A consequential election season is on the horizon for Spartanburg County, with voters preparing to decide on key leadership roles that will directly impact public safety, education, and local governance. The sudden resignation of longtime Sheriff Chuck Wright earlier this year has triggered a special election, making the 2025 ballot one of the most significant in recent memory.

Important Dates – Spartanburg County Sheriff Special Election

On July 22 at 6:00pm The Woodruff Times and Spartans First will present a candidate’s townhall for Spartanburg County Sheriff at the City of Woodruff Auditorium.

•Primary Election: August 5, 2025

•Early Voting (Primary): July 21 – August 1

•Primary Runoff (if needed): August 19

•Runoff Early Voting: August 13 – August 15

•Special Election Day: November 4, 2025

•Early Voting (General): October 20 – October 31

The winner will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, leading one of the county’s most critical departments responsible for public safety and law enforcement strategy.

But the sheriff’s race is just one piece of the puzzle. Spartanburg County voters will also weigh in on several education and municipal leadership roles. School board elections will take place across seven local districts, with the following seats up for grabs:

• Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6: 5 seats total

• District 53: 4 seats

• District 75: 3 seats

Municipal elections in Woodruff will include City Council Wards 2, 4, and 6, each with one seat to be filled. Additionally, four seats on the Spartanburg School District Four Board of Trustees are also on the ballot.

• Opens: August 1, 2025

• Closes: August 15, 2025

Candidate Filing Period – for School Board

  • Filing closed July 15, 2025

These races will influence decisions on everything from educational priorities and classroom funding to zoning regulations and local infrastructure development.

For up-to-date information on filing procedures, voter registration deadlines, and polling locations, residents should contact the Spartanburg County Voter Registration and Elections Office or visit the South Carolina Election Commission’s website at SCVotes.gov.

As November approaches, community members are encouraged to stay informed, participate in public forums, and most importantly—vote. Whether by absentee ballot, early voting, or on Election Day, every ballot cast helps shape the future of Spartanburg County.
