In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 3, tragedy struck a Spartanburg family when gunfire erupted at a residence on Collins Avenue.
At approximately 4:15 a.m., Spartanburg Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at 314 Collins Avenue, Apartment B. When officers arrived, they discovered signs of gunfire and followed a trail of blood inside the home.
There, officers found seven-month-old Zymir Demarco Smith, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. Emergency medical services were immediately called, but despite efforts to save him, the infant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to investigators, Zymir and his mother were asleep when several unknown suspects fired multiple rounds into the home.
Family members remember Zymir as a joyful baby who loved watching cartoons and eating, describing him as always cheerful and full of life.
The Spartanburg Police Department is urging anyone with information about this crime—no matter how small—to come forward. The case remains under active investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator B. Sanders at the Spartanburg Police Department at 864-594-7223, or 1-800-CRIME SC (274-6372) (Reference C25080063). Anonymous tips are welcome. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this heinous crime.
Please, if you know something, say something. Help bring justice to Zymir and provide closure for his family.
