For many, buying or selling a home is one of the most stressful experiences of their lives. For Susan Gaddy, an Upstate native, navigating both real estate and personal challenges, the process became more than just a transaction—it became a turning point in her health journey.
Like countless women, Gaddy admits she has struggled with weight gain, especially during stressful times. “A real estate transaction can feel overwhelming,” she said. “And with stress often comes extra pounds. It’s easy to lose yourself in the process.”
But instead of staying discouraged, Gaddy chose a different path. She invested in herself, purchasing books and meal planning programs, and began to understand the power of incremental changes. “What I learned is that language matters,” she explained. “I started speaking to myself with compassion, not criticism. That shift changed everything.”
Her journey included taking up interval running, starting with short intervals and building up over time. She recalls running her first strides along the beach in the early morning, a moment that gave her both peace and determination. “I gave myself a goal and decided to keep showing up for me,” she said.
Through this, Gaddy discovered that self-compassion and discipline can work hand-in-hand. Her story is now an inspirational reminder for others—especially women balancing careers, families, and personal health—that small, consistent efforts can lead to lasting change.
Her message is simple but powerful: “We have to be kind to ourselves, even through stressful times. If I can do it, others can too. Do your homework, take it one step at a time, and don’t give up.”
Gaddy’s journey shows that while buying a home can bring stress, it can also spark renewal. Her story is one of resilience, education, and encouragement—proof that even in life’s busiest seasons, it’s possible to reclaim health and hope.
