On October 1, 1995, Reverend Andrew Shull began his service as pastor of First Baptist Church, Woodruff. This month marks 30 years of faithful leadership, pastoral care, and community impact.

Prior to coming to Woodruff, Rev. Shull pastored at First Baptist Church in Johnston, SC; Elmburg Baptist Church in Shelby County, Kentucky; and Memorial Baptist Church in Laconia, Indiana. He also served as a Journeyman missionary for two years in Kanagawa, Japan. A graduate of Brookland Cayce High School, Furman University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Rev. Shull continues a family tradition of ministry. His father, the late Dr. Lonnie Shull, Jr., served as a pastor for over 50 years, and his brother, Rev. Tim Shull, currently serves as Director of Missions for the Edgefield County Baptist Association and as pastor of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church in Modoc, SC.

For Rev. Shull, longevity in one congregation has been a gift. “Being at the same church for 30 years has allowed me the privilege of ministering to the children of those who were youth and children when I first arrived,” he shared. “One of my greatest joys is getting to be part of the way God is at work in people’s lives.”

Beyond the pulpit, Rev. Shull has invested deeply in the Woodruff community. For the past 12 years, he has taught a release-time Theology course for students at Woodruff High School. He helped establish the Woodruff Area Ministerial Association, which launched Great Start Woodruff, the Woodruff Area Community Revivals, and other initiatives. He has also served on numerous community boards and committees.

First Baptist Church, established in 1787, shares a long legacy of missions and community service. Under Rev. Shull’s leadership, the church has continued to grow its ministries, including the Christian Learning Center, an after-school program for students in 4K through grade 6, and Woodruff Upward Soccer, which will enter its third season this spring.

Looking ahead, Rev. Shull remains encouraged by the future. “I’m excited about the things God is doing in our community and invite everyone to come, visit, and use their gifts for the glory of God,” he said. “When Jesus is lifted up, He will draw all people to Himself.”
