Woodruff, S.C. — Students at Woodruff High School are showing their school spirit in a big way this Homecoming Week. From September 29 through October 3, the Wolverines will raise money for a cause that hits close to home through a lighthearted — and messy — fundraiser:Pie in the Face.

Throughout the week, students will donate funds toward the faculty and staff members who have bravely volunteered to “take one for the team.” The individual whose jar collects the most money will be rewarded with a whipped-cream pie to the face during the Homecoming Pep Rally.

But behind the laughter is a much deeper purpose. This fundraiser is dedicated to supporting those fighting cancer, reminding the school and the community that every dollar raised helps bring hope and encouragement.

The Wolverines are also joining hands with their rivals-turned-partners, the Broome Centurions, in a show of unity. During Friday night’s highly anticipated football game between Woodruff and Broome, both schools will stand together in solidarity by wearing pink in honor of Broome’s cheer coach, Anne Harper.
For Coach Harper, who is courageously facing cancer, the outpouring of love is more than symbolic. “This game is bigger than football,” said Heather Kelly, WHS Head Cheer Coach. “It’s about showing support, standing together, and proving that when it comes to fighting cancer, we’re all on the same team.”

As the Wolverines prepare to host the Centurions under the Friday night lights, the message will be loud and clear: this game is not just about touchdowns and tackles — it’s a powerful statement of hope, unity, and determination.

Community members are encouraged to participate by donating to the fundraiser, attending the pep rally, and proudly wearing pink at the game.
