As the Thanksgiving season draws near, Gretchen Kares is calling on the community to embrace the spirit of generosity and help ensure every family has a reason to be thankful. Founded in 2024 by Woodruff native and 1990 Woodruff High School graduate, Gretchen Martin-Perry, the nonprofit is dedicated to supporting single-parent households, senior citizens, and veterans.
This year, Gretchen Kares has launched its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to provide warm and nourishing holiday meals to families in need. The organization is asking residents and local businesses to donate nonperishable food items such as canned vegetables, stuffing mix, pasta, rice, and other pantry staples. Monetary donations and grocery store gift cards are also encouraged to help fill holiday baskets with essential items.
“Our mission is to lift up families who are struggling, especially during times when community and togetherness mean the most,” said Martin-Perry. “No one should have to go without a Thanksgiving meal.”
Donations may be dropped off at 194 Vickery Road through November 7. Those unable to deliver items may call (864) 586-9826 to arrange for pickup. Holiday food bags will be available for distribution on Saturday, November 15, with pickup time and location to be announced soon.
As the season of gratitude approaches, Gretchen Kares reminds us of the power of kindness, connection, and community support. Whether through giving, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every act of compassion helps ensure no table is empty and no family feels forgotten this Thanksgiving.
