On Monday, November 17th, at 6 o’clock, Stone Soup Storytelling hosted the Legendary Leftover competition at 134 South Main Street in Woodruff. There were several surprises, and the winners included Karyn Page Davies’ Ham and Potato Casserole (1st place), my Cranberry Sweet Chili Turkey Meatballs (2nd place), and Karyn’s Chicken Enchiladas and Miss Courtney Love’s Turkey BLT Flatbread tied for honorable mention. Karyn Page Davies took 1st place with her Maple Syrup Fresh Sweet Potato Casserole, and Katherine Kaminer’s Broccoli Salad won 2nd place. Miss Love took 1st place in desserts for her “Don’t get shot at the Mall” Pecan Pie. She told a scary story of her cousin escaping death while the rest of her family baked multiple pies. The texture reminded us of a New Orleans praline. The greatest culinary surprise of the night was Courtney substituting white vinegar for Karo syrup, and her pie received the most votes overall.
Along with Stone Soup Storytelling, two 501(c)3 non-profit charities have been announced as beneficiaries of cookbook sales next year. The Woodruff Area Soup Kitchen and The Helping Hands Ministries of Woodruff were chosen. The January Tasting will be held at The Soup Kitchen from 11:30 until 12:30. They will also host in May.
At 6 o’clock on December 15th, the Woodruff Times and Stone Soup Storytelling will host our Tasting featuring Cookies and Holiday Classics. Wade Morgan will play Christmas music on the piano, and there may be some singing involved. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us. Enter your recipes and participate in the fun.
