The October meeting of the Woodruff City Council saw the approval of changes to the road classification and design standards of the city’s land development regulations and the swearing in of three returning council members after re-election.
The meeting opened with Council Members Jeff Wood, Allen Durham, and Toni Sloan being sworn in as continuing council members. All three were re-elected this year after running unopposed. In addition, the Council also elected a new Mayor Pro Tem, naming Jeff Wood to the position that has been held by Councilwoman Sloan, who nominated Wood.
In old business, the Council unanimously approved the second reading of an ordinance amending the land development regulations to increase the width of the right-of-way and pavement for new roads. The change provides more space for utility companies to install and repair their equipment.
In other business, the Council approved its meeting calendar for 2026, maintaining the traditional schedule of the last Tuesday of each month, except December due to the Christmas holiday.
They also approved a petition to annex a 53-acre housing development on Miller Road. The annexation ordinance will still have to come before the Council for final approval. The Council also approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into contracts with vendors for the Riverbend Athletic Complex. This resolution will help to ensure the project stays on schedule.
The Woodruff City Council meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The meetings are open to the public, and the next meeting will be on December 30.
