An informative and impactful panel discussion anchored the Dr. E.E. McClaren Health & Wellness Resource Day, bringing critical attention to prostate cancer, mental health, and healthcare equity within the community.
Hosted by Dr. Asa T. Briggs, the discussion featured a distinguished panel of advocates and health professionals, including Leonard Wheeler of NFL Legends, Tom Tamberino of Profound Medical, Kevin Barger of KPOPCA, and Tina Belge. Together, the panelists shared expertise, personal insight, and practical information aimed at improving health outcomes—particularly for men who are often underserved or reluctant to seek care.
The conversation addressed the importance of early detection and education around prostate cancer, while also confronting the persistent stigma surrounding men’s mental health. Panelists emphasized the need for open dialogue, community-based resources, and culturally competent care to close longstanding gaps in access and outcomes.
“Health and wellness is our civil rights movement,” Dr. Briggs said. “Let’s stand together to address healthcare inequities, break the stigma around men’s health, and ensure our community has access to life-saving information and care.”
The event underscored the role of collaboration between medical professionals, advocacy organizations, and community leaders in advancing public health. Attendees were encouraged to prioritize regular health screenings, seek mental health support when needed, and share information within their networks.
Held in honor of Dr. E.E. McClaren, the Health & Wellness Resource Day reflected his enduring legacy of service, education, and advocacy for equitable healthcare. Organizers noted that the program was not only a tribute, but also a call to action—reinforcing the message that wellness is a right, not a privilege.
The panel served as a reminder that informed communities are healthier communities, and that sustained engagement is essential to advancing men’s health, mental wellness, and overall community well-being.
