As Winter Storm Fern continues to affect Woodruff and surrounding communities, Palmetto Suds SC, located at 306 N. Main St., Woodruff, has remained open to ensure residents have access to clean, warm clothing and a comfortable place to laundry them.
The laundromat is open daily from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, providing essential services as frigid temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, seating areas, and vending machines, offering a comfortable environment for customers.
Access to clean, dry clothing is also a key factor in cold-weather safety. Health and emergency officials stress that wearing layered, loose-fitting clothing helps prevent hypothermia and frostbite by trapping body heat and maintaining insulation.
Tom Kohne, the new owner of Palmetto Suds SC, said staying open during severe weather is about meeting critical community needs.
“Clean, dry clothes and fresh blankets can make a real difference during extreme cold,” Kohne said. “We added large-capacity washers and dryers to help residents wash comforters and blankets. We want to be here for residents and help provide some comfort and warmth.”
The South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) recommends wearing multiple light, dry layers instead of one heavy garment, along with hats, mittens, and scarves to protect exposed skin. Residents are also urged to change out of wet clothing immediately and limit time outdoors when possible.
With frigid temperatures expected to linger, community resources such as Palmetto Suds SC play an important role in helping residents maintain warmth and personal safety. As Woodruff weathers Winter Storm Fern, the continued operation of local businesses highlights the community’s resilience and commitment to looking out for one another.
