WOODRUFF, S.C. — Eight Woodruff athletes signed college scholarships in a ceremony at the high school last Friday in front of friends, family, and coaches.
Seven football players and basketball star Jensyn Turner all made their college destinations official, with four Wolverines joining the same football program as they continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level.
Here is a look at the eight Wolverines who will represent Woodruff High School at the next level.
🏀 Jensyn Turner — Southern Wesleyan University
Woodruff senior point guard Jensyn Turner signed with Southern Wesleyan University. Turner will go down as one of the all-time greats in Lady Wolverine basketball, finishing her six-year career sixth all-time in points (1,231), first in assists (414), and first in steals (465).
She was the first middle school player in school history to make the varsity roster during the 2020–21 season and played five varsity seasons while overcoming a knee injury as a sophomore.
“I chose SWU because of the Christian environment. Immediately when I got to campus, I could feel the Lord’s hand over the place. After lunch with Coach Davis, the decision that had been causing me anxiety for months had become extremely clear. SWU felt like home quickly; the team and coaches were very welcoming and made sure I knew it was a family environment. I felt the Lord drawing me towards SWU for many reasons, specifically the basketball program and education program. I’m very excited for what’s to come in the next chapter of my life!”
🏈 Shaun ‘War Daddy’ Graybill — Brevard College
The Wolverines’ dominant middle linebacker, Graybill, is one of the greats at the position in Woodruff football history. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in tackles for a career, single season, and single game, earning two-time All-Region and All-State honors.
He will compete alongside teammate Jordan Hood at Brevard College.
“I think the scheme (Brevard) runs defensively is a good fit for me. Playing with Jordan (Hood) will be cool since we have been good friends since we were kids.”
🏈 Jordan Hood — Brevard College
Hood played the first three years of his Woodruff career at linebacker before moving to the defensive line as a senior. A four-year varsity player and All-Region selection, Hood was a key force for the Wolverines.
“The coaching staff at Brevard are great men who have been communicating with me since they came down here in Woodruff. I felt at home when I went to visit the campus to see what it would be like, and enjoyed every second of it. I took some time to think about what I wanted to do for the next four years. The game of football has been a part of my life, and I wasn’t ready to let the game go. I wanted to do something that nobody in my family had an opportunity to do: play ball at the college level. Going there with my brother (Shaun) is something he and I have been talking about since day one. I’m thankful that it turned into reality and can’t wait to see our growth together.”
🏈 Kori Moates — Averette University
Kori finished his Woodruff career as the school’s all-time leader in kickoff return yards and was a standout slot receiver. An All-Region selection, he battled back from a knee injury to contribute during region play and the playoffs and earned a North-South All-Star selection.
“Signing with Averett was the right fit for me, knowing that I would have an opportunity to play ball as a freshman… I kept asking God for answers, and the answer was Averett. I’m more than thankful God has blessed me there. It’s going to feel like home knowing that some of my high school teammates will be coming with me too.”
🏈 Ty Moates — Averette University
Ty was a two-year starter in the secondary, playing both defensive back and safety. An All-Region selection, he was among team leaders in pass break-ups and recorded multiple interceptions.
“I chose Averette University because I really liked the environment and the atmosphere on campus… I feel very blessed for this opportunity, and I’m excited to get to work and be part of building something special.”
🏈 Grayson Patterson — Averette University
A 6-foot-4, 240-pound offensive lineman, Patterson transitioned from basketball to football and developed into a key contributor on the line. He joins several teammates heading to Averette.
“I chose Averette because it gives me that hometown feeling… It is just a great overall fit for me.”
🏈 Jalen Roberson — Averette University
Roberson played multiple roles during his varsity career, contributing at both running back and linebacker. He finished his senior season second on the team in tackles.
“I’m excited to be signing with Averett… I believe Averett will give me the opportunity to grow as a player, compete at a high level, and be part of a great team culture.”
🏈 Tra’von Lee — Newberry College
A North-South All-Star and All-Region selection, Lee was a dominant defensive lineman and team leader. He will continue his career at Newberry College.
“I chose Newberry because of the love the team and coaching staff showed me… and how much better I can get as a player with their help and coaching.”
These eight student-athletes represent the next chapter of Woodruff High School athletics, carrying their talents and determination to the collegiate level while continuing their academic journeys.
