COLUMBIA — The Center for Educator Preparation and Innovation (EPI Center) is expanding its impact across South Carolina by equipping educators with the tools and support needed to earn National Board Certification—one of the most respected credentials in the teaching profession.
Through its all-inclusive program, the EPI Center provides mentorship, structured writing support, and direct access to nationally recognized experts, ensuring teachers are supported at every stage of the certification process.
Dr. Damara Hightower Mitchell, CEO of the EPI Center, said educators across the state are actively engaging with the program.
“We provide access to industry leaders from around the country to support educators along their journey,” she said. “We are committed to helping educators be their very best because every student deserves the very best.”
National Board Certification is widely recognized for improving instructional quality, with research showing students of board-certified teachers gain additional months of learning each year.
Michelle Accardi, a National Board Certified Teacher and strategic partnerships leader, said the process elevates teaching practice.
“It transforms how you teach and ensures you are giving your absolute best every day,” she said.
For veteran educator Ms. David, who attended the EPI Center’s Writing Retreat in Columbia, the experience has been transformative.
“This process pushes you to grow,” she said. “I want to be the best educator I can be for my students and my profession.”
Educators interested in advancing their practice are encouraged to connect with the EPI Center and explore available resources at EPIPathways.com.
As the Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation continues to expand its reach, its work is shaping the future of teaching and learning across the state—ensuring every classroom is led by a highly effective educator.
