On Tuesday, February 11, 2020 the City of Woodruff held a ceremony celebrating the opening of the new McKinney Park Streetscape Connector.
The streetscape walkway is a formal entrance to McKinney Park and leads to a new public parking lot next to City Hall. It also includes seating and lights, and features maroon and gold intertwine ribbons painted along the walkway to represent Woodruff.
“We wanted something that would make Woodruff stand out,” says Lee Bailey, the city manager of Woodruff who also acted as the project manager.
The downtown area now has 254 parking spots with this new parking lot.
During the ceremony, Bailey mentioned several times about the anticipated growth coming to Woodruff and that the city is being proactive in their projects to accommodate this growth.
He said the city has bought additional land in the downtown area for more parking when the need arises.
The next project Bailey announced is an event center that will occupy a space on South Main Street in downtown Woodruff (between The Wine Gallery and Rotties 221 Biergarten). The city bought the building about a year ago for a special project with the goal to draw more business downtown.
“We are here to make the community better and we strive every day to do that,” said Bailey about the city administration.
