Caldwell is the co-founder of the Agape Care Center and former Mayor of Woodruff (from 1984 to 1992).
Agape Care Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is an all-male, faith-based homeless rescue mission. Les and his wife, Karen, opened the center on February 13, 2016. Agape is located at 200 East Peachtree St. in Woodruff.
His role at Agape Care Center: Les shares the executive director title with his wife, Karen. Together, they oversee the daily operations and activities of the care center. This includes, providing food, shelter and clothing to the homeless; securing prescriptions and medical attention; assisting with job searches; helping with continued education (GED) and finding treatment facilities for drug and alcohol addiction. As of press time, the Agape has ministered to 360 individuals.
Best advice ever received: “Young man, Jesus Christ, died so you may have eternal life. He didn’t do so for you to SIT until He calls you home. He expects you to SERVE others as you go through this life until He calls you home.”
Best advice he can give: “When you allow mediocrity to control your life, you won’t hear criticism from those alike. It’s when you dare to be different that others wish you would sit down and stop rocking the boat.”
Favorite place in Woodruff: “When we do have time away from Agape, we enjoy taking our three grandkids to McKinney Park, especially during the warmer weather when the water feature is operating.”
