Woodruff just got a lot sweeter with the opening of a new candy shop on Main Street in downtown.
Located between Scurry’s on Main and Peachy & Posh, Main Street Sweets opened in early October and has been putting smiles on face of all who visit the shop. For owner and Woodruff native, Dee Dimsdale, opening the candy shop was a way to brighten up a little bit of 2020.
“The [COVID-19] pandemic put a damper on 2020 and it just seemed like the right time to bring in something fun for Woodruff,” said Dimsdale. “[The candy shop] is also something that the community never had before. To see the smiles on people’s faces when they pick out their favorite treats or candy. It’s been exciting for everyone to come in and check it out.”
Main Street Sweets is sure to have something for everyone. From traditional chocolate like Hershey’s bars, Reese’s, Snickers, Tootsie Rolls to hard candies and ice cream. Also in stock is the highly requested sugar-free taffy. You’ll also find season treats, like candy and caramel apples now for the fall. Dimsdale also sources local treats for the shop as well, such as gourmet popcorn from Kerneltime in Moore and homemade fudge from Sweet Mother Fudgers.
As for her candy selection process, Dimsdale admits she doesn’t really have one. “I stay up all night looking for different candies. I order things that I think kids will love and things that adults will love.” But like any true business owner, she will assess what sells well and adjust her candy selection as needed.
Dimsdale, who was a stay-at-home mom prior to opening the shop, said that running the store will be a family affair with the help from her mom, boyfriend and three kids, ages 23, 19 and 12.
Dimsdale secured the Main Street rental property in August 2020 from Jack Properties. “It took about two months to get set up and ready to go.” Main Street Sweets is open Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The shop will be open for any community events throughout the year.
