Superintendent Dr. Rallie Liston Announces Retirement from Spartanburg School District Four

In a heartfelt announcement, Dr. Rallie Liston, Superintendent for Spartanburg School District Four, revealed that he will retire at the culmination of the academic year in June 2024. In a letter addressed to the “District Four Family,” Liston expressed profound gratitude, stating, “Words cannot express the labor of love, hard work, and commitment to excellence this has been for me! We have done this work together for our students – our #1 priority!”
Liston extended his appreciation to both past and present board members, noting that five of the current board members were once his students. He also took a moment to thank the dedicated faculty and staff, emphasizing the exceptional nature of District 4 and the Woodruff community. He remarked, “Our people make the difference for our children every single day.”
Looking ahead, Liston disclosed that he plans to stay within the Woodruff community and devote more time to his supportive family. The superintendent’s family has been a pillar of strength throughout his distinguished 43-year career in education.
As Dr. Liston prepares to conclude this chapter of his career, the Spartanburg School District Four community reflects on the transformative leadership and unwavering dedication and excellence he brought to education in the district.

  1. He was my middle school English/Language teacher at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton when he first started teaching. Super nice man from the start.
