The Woodruff City Council gave the go ahead for the annexation of more than 88 acres on East Georgia Road that was previously the site of a junkyard.
City Manager Lee Bailey told council members that the family the owns the property requested the annexation for the potential future sale or development of the property, improving the potential value of the property.
The Council also approved a request to zone the property as R-2 Single Family Residential. Bailey said there is no current plan for development of the property but that the owners requested the zoning designation for possible development.
In other business, the Council approved the second reading of an ordinance to annex a 10-foot strip of land along the 2.5 acres at 661 Cavins Road. The annexation has no taxation or zoning impact on the property. It is used to connect to another property beyond this one to make it contiguous to the city limits for annexation.
Council members also heard a presentation from Selena Smith, the community health coordinator with United way of the Piedmont regarding a new project the organization is undertaking. The United Way is conducting a community health needs assessment to determine future needs. The mission of the new project is to achieve health equity and improve health outcomes across the Upstate. The assessment is to better understand the health needs and wellness challenges of Spartanburg County.
The Woodruff City Council meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
