The regular season is in the books for all Woodruff High School spring sports teams, and this week begins the postseason for most Wolverine squads while the 2025 campaign has ended for another. The week that was saw a relatively light schedule in the lead-up to the postseason, but there were still some notable performances and significant victories for the Wolverines. Here is a look back at the final week of the 2025 spring sports regular season.

Baseball Blitzes Westside
The Woodruff baseball team played giant killers again in their final regular-season tune-up for the playoffs. The Wolverines traveled to Anderson to take on 4A top-10 ranked Westside, and blasted the Rams 12-2. It was yet another win over a larger and ranked opponent for the baseball team that made a living in 2025 out of taking down larger foes. Woodruff finished the regular season with a 19-7 record and is ranked in the top five of Class 3A. The Wolverines have won five straight games and six of their last seven. Woodruff must continue their hot play as they are in the same four-team play-off district as Southside Christian, the defending 1A state champions and current #1 ranked team in 3A.

Boys Soccer Eyes Deep Play-off Run
The Wolverine boys’ soccer team advanced to the third round of the playoffs last season, and the team looks to have another successful trip through the bracket in 2025. The Wolverines finished the regular season with a 14-3 record and a second-place finish in Region 3-3A. With an experienced roster with loads of senior leadership, the Wolverines will be a tough out for anyone who meets them in the playoffs.

Lady Wolverine Soccer Team Falls in Playoffs
The girls’ soccer team showed just how far it has come since the start of the season in their regular season finale. Woodruff defeated Brasher Middle College 2-1. The same Brashier team had beaten the Lady Wolverines early in the season by a score of 5-1. Kaelyn Glass and Nallely Perez each scored goals in the win. Woodruff finished the regular season 8-11 but fell to Southside Christian 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs. It is a bright future for the powerhouse program, though, with the team starting six freshmen.

Softball Team Looking to get Healthy Entering District Playoffs
The Lady Wolverines’ softball team did not see their regular season end in the best of ways, with several key players banged up and two games that got away. Woodruff fell to Chapman 6-2 on senior night before a 10-0 defeat against vaunted Union County. But with the play-offs comes a clean slate, and once again, the Lady Wolverines will look to win a district championship for the second straight year. Woodruff hosts Pendleton in a rematch of last year’s district championship to get things started and will have to advance past Palmetto and Chapman as well to earn another trip to the upper-state championship bracket.

Boys Tennis Falls to Powdersville
The Wolverine boys’ tennis team fell to usual powerhouse Powdersville in the first round of the playoffs last week, 4-2. It was a competitive match indicative of the fine season put together by a team that continued to improve with each match. Woodruff finished the season with an overall record of 8-4.

Golf Team Competes in Region Tournament
The Woodruff golf team played well in their region tournament, finishing third out of six teams in the two-round event. The Wolverines defeated Mountain View Prep, Union County, and Greer Middle College and finished just behind Chapman and Broome, respectively. Jackson McCarley led Woodruff, shooting an 84. Addison Davis and T.J. Morris each shot an 87, and Hunter West and Lake Smith shot 88 and 90, respectively. Up next for the Wolverines is the upper-state tournament, which will determine if Woodruff will qualify for the state tournament coming up in two weeks.

Individual Region Champions Highlight Region 3 Track and Field Meet
The Woodruff track and field teams competed in the Region 3-3A meet last week and performed well. Kieran Goodman won the individual region championship for the boys’ team in the long jump. Nathan McConnell finished second overall in the pole vault, and in the shot put finals, Dawson Clevenger and Daniel Haas finished second and third overall, respectively. The Wolverine boys finished fourth overall as a team.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Wolverines took the top three spots in the pole vault, with Alyssa Dolquist winning the region championship, followed in second and third place by Harrison Hatchett and Callie Adams. Emma Stubbs won the region title in discus as well, with a throw of 33.46 meters. The Woodruff girls finished fifth overall as a team.
