The Woodruff Times is proud to welcome three bright and passionate interns to our newsroom for the summer. Representing both local talent and out-of-state excellence, this dynamic trio will gain hands-on experience in journalism while contributing fresh ideas and voices to the paper.

Two of the interns, Aryaneth Sales and Lila Dees, are students at Woodruff High School and bring with them a deep connection to the community and its stories. Joining them is Cleophus Washington, a rising sophomore at the University of Michigan, majoring in business and passionate about financial literacy and using mass media to share valuable information about wealth accumulation.

The internship program is designed to give students real-world exposure to the fast-paced world of local journalism. Their responsibilities will include designing newspaper pages, covering local events, and writing feature stories that reflect the voices and values important to our growing community.

“These interns bring energy, curiosity, and creativity to our newsroom,” said the editorial staff at The Woodruff Times. “We’re excited not only to teach them but also to learn from them. Their unique perspectives will enrich our coverage this summer.”

Aryaneth and Lila, both actively involved in school and community activities, say they are thrilled to take their first steps into the world of journalism. Cleophus, who is exploring the intersection of business and media, looks forward to learning more about local journalism and how newspapers can be a tool for promoting financial empowerment in communities.

The internship program is made possible through funding from OneSpartanburg, Inc., which supports over 400 paid internship positions across the region—investing in the future of Spartanburg County’s workforce and The Woodruff Times who is committed to growing the next generation of community journalists.

This summer, readers can expect to see stories told through a new lens—stories that are thoughtful, engaging, and rooted in the experiences of a rising generation of community storytellers.

Welcome, Aryaneth, Lila, and Cleophus! We’re thrilled to have you on board and wish you a meaningful and inspiring internship experience at The Woodruff Times.
