WOODRUFF — With the start of a new school year just around the corner, school nutrition staff from Spartanburg County School Districts 4 and 6 are sharpening their skills—and their knives—during a two day collaborative training hosted at the RD Anderson Applied Technology Center.
Led by Chef Heather Romero, the training will take place on July 29 and 30, offering cafeteria teams a hands- on opportunity to test new menu items, improve kitchen techniques, and strengthen their approach to service. Each session runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., including practical cooking instruction and teamwork exercises.
“This training is about more than just food,” said Audra Terry, Director of Dining for Spartanburg School District Four and one of the event’s coordinators. “We’re getting ready to serve thousands of children this year, and that means being ready with nutritious meals, new ideas, and strong teamwork.”
The event reflects a growing emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and student wellness in school cafeterias. From breakfast to lunch, school nutrition teams play a vital role in fueling students’ learning and development.
As the new school year approaches, the message is clear: in Spartanburg County, school nutrition is more than a meal—it’s a mission.
