The Woodruff City Council approved the first reading of three annexation requests, which would add more than 250 acres to the city limits if approved on second reading.

Miller Road Development Annexation

One request proposes the annexation of just over 53 acres on Miller Road, which is currently an in-progress housing development.

City Manager Lee Bailey told the council that the annexation was requested by the property owner. The area is already served by city sewer, and a pump station has been constructed to handle it.

Highway 221 Property Annexation

The next request was to annex more than 205 acres on Highway 221 near Miller Road.

The owner requested annexation and zoning of single-family residential. However, Bailey indicated that no development project is planned for the property at this time.

Cross Anchor Road Connection

The third request was for a 10-foot-wide strip of land on Cross Anchor Road to connect to Miller Road and make the housing development’s area contiguous to the city limits.

The piece of land carries no zoning and has no tax implications.

City Manager Update

During the city manager update, Bailey said the city is preparing to start a rehabilitation project to resurface the basketball court at McKinney Park.

He also indicated that construction at the River Bend Athletic Complex would soon begin showing above-ground progress.

Upcoming City Council Meeting

Woodruff City Council meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The meetings are open to the public, and the next meeting will be held on March 31.
