Spring sports are now underway for Woodruff teams, and the early returns have been strong for baseball, softball, and girls’ soccer. While the season is just starting, here is a look at some of the early successes by Wolverine spring sports athletes.
Girls Soccer Starts Strong
The Lady Wolverine soccer team is off to a great start in 2026, competing in the Sabalier Classic. Woodruff finished the tournament with a win, a tie, and a narrow defeat to a stacked high school club team.
The Lady Wolverines tied 4A power Fountain Inn 1-1 in game one before falling 2-1 to Providence Athletic Club in game two. Woodruff defeated Spartanburg 2-0 in the third and final game, and the varsity squad finished second overall in the tournament.
In the junior varsity portion of the tournament, Woodruff finished with a 1-1-1 record as well. The Lady Wolverines defeated Wren 3-0, dropped a 3-1 contest to the homeschool team, the Greenville Hurricanes, and played Dorman to a scoreless draw.
Baseball Breaks Out the Bats
The varsity Woodruff baseball team opened the season with a 16-1 shellacking of Strom Thurmond.
Senior Kayden Barnaby tossed five strong innings, striking out six. The bats did their part, too, with the Wolverine sluggers pounding out 14 hits, including four doubles and drawing 11 walks.
The JV baseball team also opened with a victory, 4-1 over Blacksburg. Zeke Dickard struck out six from the mound, and Cayd Henson plated two runs with a clutch double.
Softball Looking Sharp
The Lady Wolverine softball team has looked sharp in the preseason, showcasing a potent lineup and deep pitching staff.
After a hard-fought scrimmage against Ninety-Six, Woodruff defeated Dorman and Seneca in their final pre-season scrimmages.
Jaylen Means and Danicka Simmons look sharp in the circle and at shortstop, where each plays both positions, and seventh-grade pitcher Kinsley ‘KK’ Bailey has been electric in the circle and looks like a longtime star in the making for the Lady Wolverines.
