SPARTANBURG COUNTY — Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded Thursday night, March 12, 2026, to railroad Mile Post 449.5 behind Spartanburg Day School following a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they located an individual who had been struck by a Norfolk Southern train. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said there are no indications of foul play at this time.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office will release that information once next of kin notifications have been made and the office determines it can be released.
