After more than a decade of faithful service, Lisa Abercrombie is stepping down from her role as full-time Ministry Coordinator at Woodruff First Baptist Church, leaving behind a legacy rooted in compassion, connection, and faith. For the past 13 years, Abercrombie has been a steady presence in the church and throughout the Woodruff community, serving people of all ages and helping strengthen spiritual growth and meaningful relationships.
Though she will transition out of her full-time role at the end of the month, she plans to continue serving through the spring and early summer on an hourly basis for different events.
Her journey into ministry was shaped by both her calling and her circumstances. While working as the Director of Helping Hands Ministries of Woodruff and attending First Baptist, Abercrombie felt a deep desire to serve. When the opportunity arose, she turned to prayer. “I have always had a heart for ministry and a love for helping others,” she shared. “When I heard about the position, I prayed about it and felt the Lord calling me to serve here.”
From the beginning, her vision was clear: to help the church grow closer to God and to one another, while also reaching beyond its walls into the community. Over time, that vision expanded into something even deeper. Abercrombie discovered a passion for helping others find their own place in ministry. “We all have a role to play in God’s work,” she said. “I want people to be passionate about what they do…and I always hope they see Jesus in me rather than me.”
Throughout her years of service, Abercrombie has worked across generations, ministering to children, youth, and adults alike. One of the greatest joys, she says, has been witnessing life unfold before her eyes. “Watching children grow into adults and seeing babies become young kids has been so rewarding,” she reflected. “At the same time, I’ve learned so much from the wisdom of our senior adults and their continued faithfulness.”
Her impact has extended far beyond the church itself. Abercrombie has been actively involved in efforts to connect local churches and serve the wider community through initiatives such as Unity in the Community events, football game outreaches, school supply drives, Good News Clubs, prayer walks, and community revivals. She has also helped guide the church to come alongside families during difficult moments, offering support and compassion in times of loss.
Over the years, she has seen both change and continuity within the church. Longtime members have passed on, new families have joined, and through it all, Abercrombie has remained committed to serving faithfully. “It has been an honor to serve alongside so many people through it all,” she said.
Her role has not come without challenges, but each obstacle has become an opportunity for growth. Early on, she learned an important lesson: ministry is not meant to be done alone. “You cannot do this work by yourself. It will wear you out quickly,” she explained. “God never intended for us to do life on our own.” With the support of her husband, family, volunteers, coworkers, and friends, Abercrombie has continued to grow in her faith year after year.
She carries with her simple but powerful truths- never stop learning, and always put God first.
Through teaching children and leading women’s Bible studies, she says she has gained a deeper understanding of God each time.
Abercrombie also emphasizes the importance of staying connected beyond the church walls. “If we want to make an impact, we must stay connected, love one another well, and allow God’s love to reach others through us,” she said. Whether on trips with youth or in everyday interactions, she has consistently encouraged others to be mindful of how they represent their faith and to look for opportunities to uplift those around them.
As she prepares for this next chapter, Abercrombie is looking forward to a slower pace and more intentional time with loved ones. “I’m excited to spend more time with my family and grandkids, and to have more time with God in His Word,” she shared. “I’ve often felt pulled in many directions, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to focus more on the people God has blessed me with, my husband Bobby, my children, grandchildren, and family.”
On April 19, 2026, the church will host a “Thank you” appreciation barbecue lunch catered by Midway BBQ in her honor. Bring a card for Lisa & plan to join her family and church family for lunch, a gesture that reflects the deep love and gratitude felt by those whose lives she has touched. “It makes me feel deeply loved,” Abercrombie said. “I have truly loved serving at our church and being part of such a caring community.”
When asked how she hopes to be remembered, her answer was simple and heartfelt: “More than anything, I hope people remember how God allowed me to share His love with them and others.”
Describing her 13-year journey in one word, Abercrombie chose “an honor.” And for those considering a path in ministry, she offers this advice: “There will be times when you give more than you receive, but remember you are serving God. Find mentors and strong prayer warriors who can support and encourage you when times are hard.”
As she steps away from her full-time role, one thing is certain: her presence will be deeply missed. “I will miss the people the most,” she said. “The relationships built over the years, the laughter, the shared moments of joy and hardship, and serving alongside such a faithful church family.”
Though her title may be changing, Lisa Abercrombie’s impact on her church and community will continue to be felt for years to come; a lasting testament to a life lived in service, love, and faith.
