I recently went on a hike and set out to see waterfalls! But because I try to look for God in everything, He started speaking as soon as I entered the trail. The 23rd Psalm immediately started running through my head and my heart.
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside STILL WATERS…”
I froze. I stopped dead in my tracks. Still waters. It is an invitation to release all the pressures of this world. All the heaviness. All the anxiety. And experience peace, God’s peace. A place where you are completely focused on God. I picture just gazing into the eyes of Jesus. He is the living water. He is peace. And that is the only place we can run to in a world of heartache, disappointments, and grief.
The waterfall, as beautiful as it seems, is hard and fast. Rushing downstream, consuming everything in its path. Sometimes that describes life. But Jesus offers us something different. All we have to do is stop, stoop down, and drink Him in. He brings a refreshing this world can not bring. Without water, our earthly bodies can not survive. Without this still, living water, our souls can not survive. Come to the river with me…I’ll be waiting for you there.
