Star Woodruff Running Back to Forgo Senior Season to Enroll Early as Part of 2026 Class

Record-setting Woodruff running back Aiden Gibson sent shockwaves through the South Carolina high school football world last week when he announced he would forgo his senior season with the Wolverines and enroll in college early.
Additionally, Gibson flipped his commitment from Penn State, whom he committed to in May, and instead will play for Rutgers University this fall.
A consensus four-star running back, ranked sixth at his position nationally by recruiting outlets, Gibson ends his career as one of the most prolific offensive players in school history. He is the program’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 5,142. He finishes second in all-time career rushing yards with 3,937, third in career rushing touchdowns with 52, and third in total career touchdowns with 62.
Aiden will join the Scarlet Knights in early August as a member of the 2026 recruiting class. Following his departure, rising senior Jaylen Lyles projects to take over in the backfield for the Wolverines. Lyles, himself, holds multiple Division 1 offers.
Woodruff kicks off their season on August 21 at Broome.
