WASHINGTON, D.C. — A massive data leak has exposed information belonging to more than 41,000 employees and contractors of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including immigration officers, Border Patrol agents and personnel involved in undercover investigations.

A hacking group calling itself “Department of Peace” has claimed responsibility for obtaining the information, which was published online Wednesday, October 28, through the nonprofit organization Distributed Denial of Secrets.

The leaked records reportedly contain employee names, work email addresses, telephone numbers, office locations and job assignments. Some records also reference sensitive surveillance programs and undercover operations.

According to reports, the hackers claim they accessed the information through a single sign-on system used by DHS employees. However, cybersecurity company Okta says it has found no evidence that its own systems were compromised.

DHS has acknowledged a potential security breach and confirmed it is investigating the incident while taking steps to protect affected personnel.

The group responsible claims the release was intended to increase government transparency and accountability surrounding federal immigration enforcement.

Security experts warn that exposing personnel identities and operational information could place federal employees at risk and potentially compromise ongoing investigations.

The identities of the individuals behind the hacking group remain publicly unconfirmed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
