Woodruff basketball has their man.
Jacob Freeze has been hired as the new head boys’ basketball coach for the Wolverines. The son of longtime Dorman and Laurens head coach Mark Freeze, Jacob comes from a deep basketball background and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm into the Woodruff program.
A Laurens, SC native and graduate of Laurens High School, Freeze takes over for Bryan McConnell, who led the Wolverines for 11 seasons from 2014-26.
It is the first head coaching job for Freeze, who most recently served as assistant coach at Spartanburg High School this past season where he was in charge of guard development, analytics, film analysis, and opponent scouting.
Freeze began his coaching career as a student manager at the University of South Carolina for the Gamecocks’ men’s basketball program under Head Coach Frank Martin. He was a part of South Carolina’s run to the 2017 NCAA Final Four. He later served as a graduate assistant at Austin Peay State University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Health and Human Performance with an emphasis in coaching.
Freeze then spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Rossview High School in Clarksville, TN. At Rossview, he was directly involved with conducting practice, scouting, offseason strength and conditioning, and in-game adjustments. He helped guide Rossview to the Tennessee high school Final Four in 2024.
